Of Beautiful/Peculiar Diamond-studded Gold Rings and Androgyny

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

There are girly gurlz, boyish women, and the postmodern women: feminine hybrids who know what they want and know exactly how to get it.

The postmodern women are those who know how to get into a man’s world and wear the pants effectively. These women know how to fix their own cars, set up their own computers, and clean up their own handy(wo)man messes, from the computer disasters to the house-fixing boo-boos.

And yet, while the postmodern woman can do all that and bring her kids to soccer practice besides, she still needs jewelry: rings, pendants and other trinkets to help her remember her womanity.

Today I was reminded of such a thing. As I had been surfing for new hardware to ease my life to buy come next shopping spree, I remembered to take my daily dose of jewelry. And what caught my eye was this Abstract Diamond Statement Ring in Yellow Gold.

Abstract Diamond Statement Ring 1/10 Carat (ctw) in Yellow Gold

I know, this ring looks like a guy’s ring, but actually, if you think about it, this beautiful yet peculiar ring piece is pretty much androgynous, unisex.

Which brings me to the thought that actually, today’s world is an androgynous world. Men now take care of their appearance: they have facials, foot spas, buy face cream, lotions and what-not for themselves, while women troubleshoot computers, fix their own houses, even go off to space! And yes, men buy rings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings for themselves and wear them, too. And quite a lot of them are not gay.

But back to the ring. I like it. It reminds me that the sexual role lines are blurring and I’m pretty much as capable of the things men can do, sometimes even better. :p

Zoe Wants: Rings and a Pair of Chandelier Earrings on Sale!

Yesterday I had talked about these cute and adorable Dolphin promise rings. But once in a while, a girl would love a ring for herself, just because she wants one. And I want this:

Alexadrite Gemstone and Diamond RingThis Alexandrite Gemstone and Diamond Ring in 14K White Gold is, well, to die for. I just realized that a girl can want so much in terms of jewelry and never tire of it! What caught my eye was its gemstone, first and foremost. The next reason why I liked it was that it had a pretty and unusual shape. The shape is what makes this beautiful thing a very interesting piece.

Alexandrite Gemstone and Diamond RingHere is my other Alexandrite ring fetish of the moment. I love this because the form is classic. You can wear it to a formal event, and even on casual days, because the color of the stone helps give character to the elegant color of white gold. The Alexandrite gives the ring a girly look to it, don’t you think? :)

Speaking of jewelry wants, I am forever an earrings girl. I love earrings of all shapes and sizes, but I have a particular thing for dangling earrings, much like the Freshwater Pink Pearl Drop Earrings in Sterling Silver that I talked about just this Friday’s Girls’ Night Out. But what I am dying for right now is this beautiful pair of

Nicole Ricci Decides on Pink Diamonds

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Hi Girls

pink diamondsWell pink diamonds are still all the rage. Nicole Ricci is the latest in a long line of celebs that is sporting pink diamonds - a very large pink engagement ring to be specific. Hers happens to be 5.5 carats and leaves me wondering how she can lift her delicate little hand. Oh well, I am sure that she is managing. If it was me I would certainly find a way.

engagement ringAlthough when I get married I would rather have a clear diamond. Pink just doesn’t go with everything. A traditional diamond engagement can be worn with just about anything. What type of diamond do you want in your ring?

Picking an engagement ring is a very important decision. Think about not only what is fashionable now but what you will be willing to wear for a lifetime.

Bend It Like Beckham With Emeralds

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Hi Girls

emerald ringI hope you have your sunglasses on because the emerald ring that Victoria Beckham sports could blind you. Did I mention that the emerald has diamonds on the sides? Well why not she can afford it? Hers probably cost a couple of grand.

If I had that kind of cash lying around though, I would spread it out. You can get a fabulous emerald and diamond ring for about $500 online. Which means the rest of that money could go to - you guessed it - even more fabulous jewelry and perhaps a dress or two to wear with it.

That’s just me though. What would you do if a few thousand dollars dropped in your lap? Which pieces of dazzling bling would you pick out? Would you go for the big one time purchase or spread it out a bit. We would all love to know.

Unusual Engagement Rings

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Hi Girls

How would you feel about getting an engagement ring in the shape of a serpent? That is what Queen Victoria wore in the nineteenth century and she wasn’t upset about it. That was just what was “in” back then.

Prince Philip gave his fiance, currently Queen Elizabeth, recycled jewelry and again she didn’t mind. Not when the jewels came from his mother’s tiara. Not exactly a “honey can you take it back” moment.

saphire and diamond engagement ringAnd Prince Charles gave Lady Diana a sapphire and diamond engagement ring, perhaps a style that should be placed back in the vault, if their not so happily ever after is any indication.

The royals tend to go with the unusual as their engagement rings. For yours, perhaps a serpent may be a bit much but you don’t just have to go for a standard diamond either.

emerald and diamond engagement ringJFK gave Jackie a Diamond and Emerald engagement ring and we all know that she wouldn’t have worn something that wasn’t both classy and elegant.

I kind of like the idea of intermingling diamonds with some other gorgeous stones. While a single diamond sparkles, a ring like this really shines.

Can you handle a bit more bling in your ring?

Engagement Ring Fling - Is Bigger Better?

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Hi all

engagement rings

We all know that celebrities generally believe that the bigger the ring the better. There is even a trend that takes this diamond obsession even further - triple diamond engagement rings.

When they got engaged, Guy Ritchie gave Madonna a triple stone diamond platinum engagement ring. Princess Diana’s engagement ring was an 18 carat sapphire encircled by 14 diamonds. And Donald Trump gave his fiance a 12 carat emerald cut engagement ring. Apparently this trend continues.

When is enough enough? How many arm curls do these women have to do to lift rings of this size as they order their staff around? And where can I find a man mad enough about me to do the same?

Ok we can’t all be engaged to fabulously wealthy men who can afford both huge engagement rings and personal trainers to help keep up the upper arm strength. But we can find engagement rings that we can be proud to show off to our friends and family.

Don’t go for what’s trendy. Pick a ring that feels right and matches your personality. After all, this is a ring that you will cherish for the rest of your life. Take your time and choose wisely.
