Speaking of green, I remember being enchanted with emeralds before. Emeralds have an enchanting quality to them that, despite my opinion that they are sometimes too dark for my taste, I cannot deny that they have the ability to mesmerize.

I love emeralds because when you want to go sultry, dark and edgy, but have none of the shocking qualities of reddish colors, emerald green is actually a worthy substitute. Seduction in emerald green. Is it a new concept for you?

Think of dark, emerald green satin against your skin. So sensual, and yet, it doesn’t scream for attention. An emerald green satin dress accentuated with real emeralds as yummy as these here are just my cup of tea. And make it emerald-green tea.

I could see the look now. Diamond stud earrings, emerald pendants much like these here, an emerald green dress, silver sandals, and an emerald-studded ankle bracelet. Emerald-perfect!

Going overboard with emeralds is not that pretty a sight though. As with everything, the right balance is what makes a look perfect. Jewelry is never something that a girl should have too much of. For me, balance, subtlety, and delicateness are what makes a look perfect.

And for me, emerald green is the new seduction color. And emeralds are the new seduction gemstones.

With absinthe in a beautiful champagne flute in one hand, an emerald ring on the other, an emerald dress, and either one of the emeralds I have here, surely, emerald sheets as the emerald-studded clock strikes 12?

Out of all of the Desperate Housewives, I have always really liked Felicity Huffman. She can go from plain jane to glam without breaking a sweat. She looked fabulous in her emerald and diamond earrings which complimented her simple yet elegant gown at the awards.

Felicity isn’t the only Desperate Housewife to dazzle with emeralds though. Eva received a gorgeous five-carat emerald-cut diamond ring for her engagement to Tony Parker. These stars have really made it and their fashion and jewelry more than show off their, now enormous salaries. I can’t wait to see what else pops up from their jewelry boxes this year.

We all love emeralds but what would you do with a 1759 carat emerald? This emerald was found in Coscuez, Columbia and is called the Guinness Emerald Crystal. As lovely as it is, what would you do with it? You can’t cut it down without minimizing it’s worth. You couldn’t wear it out without half a dozen armed guards and a crane. And if a Sci-Fi convention hit town you might be tackled by some Superman fan thinking that it was kryptonite. So I suppose that it is just as well that it is tucked safely away in the Banco Nazionale de la Republica’s collection.

Of course that is the sensible part of me talking. The private me envisions placing it in a scepter and parading around the house, draped in a royal cape while surrounded by house boys eagerly awaiting my next command. Thank goodness at least our imaginations are free.

Now for those few of us that don’t have a king’s ransom to spare on emeralds, rubies and diamonds, we can still feel like royalty with a couple of carefully chosen pieces. A reasonably priced emerald and diamond ring can actually be very affordable.

Skip a few nights out with the girls and save your dollars for an emerald and diamond necklace to match and you may outshine your favorite bombshell friend, who you love dearly, except when she is stealing your limelight.

Since the month of the emerald is about to end, I thought I would show you a world famous emerald necklace called the Mackay Emerald. This emerald is 167.97 carats and was discovered in Muzo, Columbia, designed by Cartier and is the largest cut emerald in the National Gem Collection. This little bauble was a wedding gift from Clarence H. Mackay to his wife, who later donated it to the Smithsonian Institute. Talk about generosity.

Perhaps we can’t all be as well endowed but gorgeous, eye catching Emerald necklaces are not out of reach. This gorgeous emerald pendant, for example, is less than $200 and doesn’t require a crane every time you lift your head:

Unless you were temporarily blinded there is no way you could miss the rubies, sapphires, diamond, and emerald jewelry that adorned Keira Knightley at the Oscars this year. The necklace she wore had the papparazi gasping and snapping pictures like madmen.

As you may recall, emeralds are this month’s birthstone and many cultures believe that the one who wears them inherits psychic powers. I wonder if Nicole Kidman knew that when she picked out her 17 carats of emerald-cut and round diamond adorned ring. Or perhaps she wore them for their other noted effect of soothing the soul.

Whether these celebs chose these gems for their spiritual and soothing effects or merely to dazzle, I know this writer is green with envy. My next jewelry purchase probably will not be in the same price league as these ladies but believe me emerald jewelry will be included in my personal jewelry box before the year is out. My name may not be in billboard lights but I will definitely feel like a celebrity.
