Diamond Eternity Ring

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Hi all

Did you know that Marilyn Monroe wore an eternity ring with 24 rectangularly cut diamonds set in a platinum band? When this beauty went to auction it was sold for $772,500.

Now we all can’t afford to pay almost a million dollars for diamond eternity rings but fortunately you can have a similar looking one for a fraction of the price.

This Diamond Eternity Anniversary Wedding Ring: 14K White Gold 3/4 Carat is only $699.00 for example:

Much more reasonable plus you would have less of a chance of having a heart attack if you lost it.

Sometimes we can’t afford to pay celebrity prices but we can always find a way to model their style and flair for less.

The Story behind the Hope Diamond

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Hi Girls

Since I seem to have diamonds on the brain this week, ( Ok, ok when don’t I have diamonds on the brain) I decided to find out the story behind the Hope Diamond. Apparently when it was first discovered by Jean Baptiste Tavernier it was a 112 3/16-carat diamond. He described it as having a lovely violet tint.

He then sold the Diamond, along with several others to King Louis XIV of France in 1668. In 1673 it was re-cut by the court jeweler, which brought it down to a 67 1/8-carat stone. The King wore it for royal ceremonies as a necklace. In 1749 the stone was once again reset by the court jeweler, to be used as part of the ceremonial jewelry for the Order of the Golden Fleece (Toison D’Or).

In 1791 the jewels were turned over to the French government. In 1972 it was stolen, during some severe looting. In In 1812 a re-cut version of it appears to have surfaced in London. There are rumors that King George IV of England had purchased it then sold it quietly to relieve some of his debts.

The next owner appears to be Henry Philip Hope. Obviously this re-cut diamond came by its name through him. It was then passed along for two generations, after his death, before being resold to take care of some of his family’s debts. It was then sold to Selim Habib, then C.H. Rosenau, then Pierre Cartier. Cartier then changed the stone’s setting to please the next buyer, Mrs. McLean. It was then mounted as a headpiece along with three layers of white diamonds.

Harry Winston Inc. purchased her entire jewelry collection in 1949. It was finally donated to the Smithsonian in 1958 where it has remained. It has only left the museum four times, since then.

Can you imagine what it must have been like to wear that fabulous diamond? It makes me want to spend the day watching Marilyn belt out Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, decked out in my own small collection of jewels.

Dazzling Diamonds - How to Tell a Stud from a Dud

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Hi Girls

As you know I love diamonds, but I was never entirely sure how they were graded. I mean why is one so much more expensive than another? And how do those in the know pick out the really good ones. So I started doing a little research and here is what I found.

diamond rings

Color is one of the number one ways of determining diamond quality. The colors are graded from D to Z. D would be a colorless diamond and Z one with a yellowish tinge. You want a diamond with the least amount of color possible, if you are looking for overall value.

Next you look at the diamond’s clarity. The less flaws that the diamond has the more valuable. And there are levels of diamond classes based on the number of external and internal flaws.

Diamond Stud Earings

And finally the size of the diamond is a determining factor. The larger the diamond, naturally, the more expensive.

Use this as a guide the next time you go hunting for diamonds.

Bridal Boutique Bling

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

Hi Girls

My friend Dan is getting ready to propose to his long time girl friend. He and I have been friends for what feels like centuries and we even dated a bit, a while back. Oddly enough his girlfriend and I have become close friends as well. I don’t know how I manage it but I tend to remain friends with my exes and their new girlfriends.

Anyway, I digress. Dan needed some help picking out her engagement ring and he trusts my taste so I got the call to help him sort through some different styles.

Picking an engagement ring can be as personal as picking out lingerie, in my opinion. You have to choose a style to match the personality.

For a modern woman, a square cut diamond might be in order. Perhaps something like:

For someone a bit more traditional perhaps something like:

And for someone who tends to like things just a bit different, perhaps something like this:

We spend hours searching through rings. I think he actually expected me to pick one out for him. No way was I taking on that kind of pressure.

Finally he settled on this one:

His fiance is a true romantic. She also likes jewelry that is a little unusual without being too modern. She has long delicate fingers and we both thought that she would look great in it.

Anyway, he is popping the question tonight, after he talks to her dad. I will let you know how it goes.
